Post-Adoption Curriculum

Do adopting parents need to learn how to parent? If love were the only requirement for being a good parent, the answer would be almost always be "no" but, as we all know, love isn't always enough – not in biological families, and not in adoptive families.
Changes in adoption and in family life more generally have spurred the growth of post-adoption parenting classes outside the agency venue to meet new needs.
Adoptions are for a lifetime, and Sanctuary House has developed training programmes for adoptive families and adoptions professionals for the entire process - from basic infant care (changing diapers, baby calming, nutrition etc) to when and how to talk to our children about adoptions, and all the other challenges we face as parents - whether adoptive or biological.
The workshops are solutions-based and provide real-world scenarios, communications skills and whole slew of resources from books to web resources to adoption stories, and testimonies from successful adoptive parents and adoptees.
This first series will look at the critical first steps after the child comes home, and how to lay the foundation of nurturing successful families.
Best of all, you will join a support network of adoptive parents and children filled with activities, outings and get-togethers.
We will be here every step of the way.
