Solution-Focused Parenting Workshops
WHAT THEY DON’T TEACH YOU IN SCHOOL ... BUT SHOULD.
Parents already know that it is very challenging to raise a child in this day and age ... So what they need is practical advice on how to go about raising resilient, self-reliant, caring individuals. Researchers, policy makers, and the media have focused considerable attention on the problems of families and how some families are failing to meet the needs of their members. Much less attention has been paid to strong, healthy families, and the characteristics that make them successful.
How common is it for an engaged couple to spend far more time planning their wedding than planning their marriage? How common is it for parents to plan a fabulous summer vacation but leave character development in their children to chance? The daily headlines bombard us with the lasting consequences of these all too common crimes of omission. Only problem is nobody tells us what to do about it and how … until now.
No gimmicks, no pat solutions - just thought provoking and informed approaches to raising children who can cope, survive, and thrive in today’s fast-paced, hard-driving society. We take the guessing game out of parenting education by providing a cohesive, consistent curriculum that answers the key questions that parents face today, from discipline issues, communication, motivation, resilience and independence. Instead of only creating awareness, the programmes are crafted out of solutions from successful parents to real problems we face everyday. The workshops are all solutions-based, and help parents rewrite negative scripts, design and implement training programmes in values and discipline, and key lessons in respect, resilience and independence.
The programmes are all research-based and some are award winning programmes, specifically adapted to the local context. They are hands-on, real-world sessions that equip parents and children alike with skills and values that they can, and want to use immediately. While the curriculum is based on the premise that effective learning is best achieved through repetition, we have taken great pains to modularise the material to cater to different schedules and needs. One of the key areas of work therefore, involves conducting these workshops in the heart of the CBD at Raffles Place during lunch.
Another key initiative is a comprehensive and thorough coaching series through the MCYS School Family Education Programme. Sanctuary House will provide consulting services to help other service providers and schools with a tailored programme based on the schools’ needs and objectives. These services will ensure that all parents, students, teachers, and other care givers are “on the same page”, and co-operatively reinforce effective family building and strengthening techniques. The programmes are also being made available to corporations, government agencies, schools, religious institutions and schools.
